Last week, there was a court hearing concerning a restaurant in Wezep. The case related to the shutdown of operations by the Netherlands Labour Authority due to health and safety risks faced by staff at the restaurant. The shutdown of operations has now been lifted, as the owner has taken measures to eliminate the serious danger.
Judge takes issue with the title of the inspection plan
During the hearing, an inspection plan entitled 'Babi Pangang met bami' (Roast pork with fried noodles) was raised. The judge described the title as inappropriate. The Labour Authority agrees. The title is at odds with what we stand for at the Labour Authority: professionalism and impartiality. This is not reconcilable with such a title for an inspection plan. It should not have happened.
However, the title played no part in the supervision or assessment of the company. The inspection was carried out on the basis of facts, indications and risks, and focused on compliance with labour legislation. Any infringements were established on the basis of the facts uncovered during the investigation and the applicable laws and regulations.
The Labour Authority uses neutral working titles, but in the wake of this incident, we are once again drawing explicit attention to this issue internally. We attach great importance to preventing a recurrence of this incident. We are communicating this both internally and externally.
