Inspection in the media sector

In 2023, inspections were carried out on internal undesirable behaviour in the Dutch media and cultural sector. The 5 largest Dutch media production companies, which are responsible for producing TV and radio programmes, among other things, and 2 public broadcasters that largely produce their own media content, were inspected.

During the inspections by the Labour Authority, it was examined whether employers had identified the risks of internal undesirable behaviour. Whether a policy is in place to prevent undesirable behaviour and whether the consequences of undesirable behaviour are limited.

The Labour Authority also examined the level of awareness within the company of the 'Respectful cooperation' media pact.

The Labour Authority found that the sector does not sufficiently comply with the requirements of the Working Conditions Act. Enforcement action was therefore taken against 6 of the 7 companies. The enforcement focused on the lack of a Risk Inventory and Evaluation (RI&E), but also on the lack of information provided to employees. At the end of 2024, the Labour Authority will once again inspect the media companies to assess whether they are making progress on this issue.
