2023 mobile scaffolding inspection results

From 16 to 22 October 2023, the Netherlands Labour Authority inspected mobile scaffolding in city centres throughout the Netherlands. lnspectors checked whether the construction of and work on mobile scaffolding complied with the requirements of the Working Conditions Decree. Action was taken in 92 percent of cases.

Results

lnspectors encountered many dangerous situations. During these inspections, mobile scaffolding was used the most by painters:

Enforcement

A total of 260 inspections were carried out. Enforcement action was taken in 239 cases (92 percent). This enforcement action consisted of:

  • Shutdowns (in cases of immediate serieus danger).
  • Warnings.
  • Fines (including for the lack of an Rl&E).

Risks

The biggest risks we encountered were:

  • Risk of falling (e.g. lack of fall protection or handrails).
  • Collision hazard (also ensuring a stable surface).
  • Falling parts/work materials (e.g. installing toe boards).
